Choosing a van

Sprinter vs Transit vs ProMaster

Which van to convert into a camper: the engines, drivetrains, sizes and layouts side by side, and what each one costs to build out.

Which van is best for a camper conversion? For a Titan Vans build, the choice is the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter or the Ford Transit. Pick the Sprinter for its diesel, the longer 170 body and an indoor shower (the Ultra is built on the Sprinter only); Titan Sprinter conversions start at $44,995. Pick the Transit for a gas engine, factory all-wheel drive and Ford's dealer network; Titan Transit conversions start at $46,995. The Classic and the Metis are built on both, so you choose the van first and the layout second. Titan does not build on the Ram ProMaster; our sister brand Timber Van Kits converts it.

Mercedes-Benz

Choose the Sprinter If…

You want the diesel, the most room, or a shower inside. The Sprinter comes in two wheelbases we build on: the 144, which Mercedes-Benz lists at 234 inches overall and which is the easier of the two to maneuver and park, and the 170, at 274 inches, which buys room inside: the Classic 170 seats up to 9, and the Ultra 170 fits a shower that doubles as a sauna. The Classic, Metis, and Ultra are all built on it, and a 4x4 or AWD Sprinter takes the same build at the same price. More on the Sprinter 144, the Sprinter 170 and 4x4 Sprinter conversions.

Ford

Choose the Transit If…

You would rather have a gas engine, factory all-wheel drive that our builds fit without modification, and Ford's dealer network for the van itself. We build the Classic and Metis on the Transit 148 and on the extended-length 148 EL, which keeps the same wheelbase and adds room behind the rear axle. More on the Ford Transit 148 and the Transit 148 EL.

Ram

And the Ram ProMaster?

The ProMaster is front-wheel drive only, and its appeal is the widest, flattest floor of the three at the lowest entry price. Titan Vans does not build its models on it. If the ProMaster is your van, our sister brand Timber Van Kits offers a professionally installed camper van conversion on the ProMaster 159" high roof, and DIY camper van kits if you would rather build it yourself. Our Boulder service center fits upgrades and repairs on ProMasters too.

Questions

Sprinter, Transit or ProMaster: Questions

Which van is best for a camper van conversion?

For a Titan build it comes down to the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter or the Ford Transit. Choose the Sprinter for its diesel, the longer 170 body and the only indoor shower we build (the Ultra); Titan Sprinter conversions start at $44,995. Choose the Transit for a gas engine, factory all-wheel drive our builds fit without modification and Ford's dealer network; Titan Transit conversions start at $46,995. Titan does not build on the Ram ProMaster; our sister brand Timber Van Kits converts and makes kits for it.

Is a Sprinter conversion more expensive than a Transit conversion?

Not for the same layout. The Classic, for example, starts at $44,995 on the Sprinter 144 and $46,995 on the Transit 148 (2026 model year, conversion only). What you pay for the van itself is between you and the dealer, because you supply the chassis.

Can I get all-wheel drive or 4x4?

Yes, on both vans we build on. Titan builds fit a 4x4 or AWD Sprinter and a factory all-wheel-drive Transit without modification, and the layout, the systems and the price are the same as on a rear-wheel-drive van. Suspension, lift and tire packages are fitted in our own service center.

Which van can have an indoor shower?

The Sprinter. The Ultra, our camper van with an indoor shower, is built on the Sprinter 144 and 170 only; the Ultra 170 starts at $99,995. Every Transit build has a rear spray-down shower for rinsing off outside, and every Metis includes a 5 gal. cassette toilet.

Does Titan Vans build on the Ram ProMaster?

Not as a Titan model. Our service center works on ProMasters, and our sister brand Timber Van Kits offers its Camp conversion on the ProMaster 159" high roof, professionally installed, plus DIY kits for the ProMaster.

Is the van included in the price?

No. Titan prices are for the conversion; you supply the Sprinter or Transit, new or used, in the drivetrain you want, and we build on it. That keeps the van purchase, its financing and its factory warranty with the dealer.
