The Transit is wider across the mirrors than a Sprinter, which you notice in tight drive-throughs and narrow forest roads more than on the highway.

The Transit High Roof gives about 81.5 inches of maximum interior height — the most in the class, and a real difference if you are tall or want overhead cabinets without ducking. Maximum cargo volume reaches roughly 487 cubic feet on the High Roof Extended. The Transit's body is slightly wider inside than a Sprinter's, which gives our cabinetry a bit more room to work with along the galley wall.
Engine, transmission, drivetrain
Two gas V6s. The standard 3.5L PFDi V6 makes about 275 hp and 262 lb-ft and is flex-fuel capable. The optional 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 delivers roughly 300 hp and 400 lb-ft — the one to spec if you tow, carry a heavy build, or live at elevation, where turbocharging keeps power on tap. Both use a ten-speed automatic, with rear-wheel drive standard and intelligent AWD available.
Fuel capacity and range
A 25-gallon tank is standard, with a 31-gallon extended-capacity tank available. Order the big tank. A converted High Roof Transit realistically returns mid-teens mpg, so the 31-gallon option is the difference between roughly 350 miles of range and closer to 450.
Weight and towing
GVWRs range from about 8,670 lbs on a T-150 to 11,000 on a T-350HD, with maximum cargo-van payload above 5,000 lbs on heavy-duty configurations and towing up to roughly 6,900 lbs. For most camper builds a T-250 or T-350 gives comfortable payload headroom once water, batteries, and gear are aboard.
